Ocean Park x Sanrio x Halloween - The 2018 Mash-Up You Didn't Know You Wanted

Hello Kitty and Halloween are two terms that you'd rarely hear used in a single sentence, but thanks to Ocean Park Hong Kong, that's exactly the kind of (occasionally terrifying) fun you can look forward to experiencing if you visit the theme park this Halloween.

Honestly, it's the Sanrio x Ocean Park x Halloween mash-up you never knew you wanted until it's happening right before your very eyes.

But hey, don't just take our word for it. Check our highlight reel and see for yourself.

Now, do you believe me?

Honestly, a single day isn't enough to enjoy all of the exciting (and occasionally terrifying) attractions that Ocean Park's scare fest has to offer, but if one day is truly all you can spare for this incredible event, then here are some tips to help you make the most out of your Helloween experience.

Tip #1 Wear comfortable shoes.
This theme park is huge, and some areas have a bit of stairs and an uphill lane or two that you may need to trek to get from Point A to Point B. Also, have your waterproof jacket or raincoat with you and don't let ill weather stand in your way.

Tip #2 Plan to stay from morning to night.
For the select dates of Ocean Park Helloween, the park will be open until 11:30PM! Yes, you read that right. 11:30 PM, you guys! Take advantage of this, most especially because 1) there are two attractions that offer new content at night and 2) Sanrio's Trick or Treat trail looks wonderful during the day as it is, but it turns even more magical at night. :)

Tip #3 Map things out.
Download the official app of Ocean Park Hong Kong and use this to come up with an "itinerary". Like I said earlier, this park is huge (in a good way, of course), and using the app to plan ahead will give you more time to enjoy Helloween's numerous attractions.

P.S. It has to be connected to the park's own WI-FI network for it to work like Google Maps or Waze.

Tip #4 Prioritize the limited-time, Halloween-only attractions.
...and especially if you've already been to Ocean Park in the past.

For those hoping for a recommended itinerary, we at #teamhomebased got you covered, and we've listed below the TOP 6 attractions / rides that everyone should NOT go home without trying.

Samsung Gear VR presents: Halloween Mine Train
If you consider yourself an adrenaline junkie, then you absolutely NEED to try that ride. Dubbed as the Haunted Mine ride, it debuted last December 2017 and is Hong Kong's first virtual reality ride. For 2018's Halloween season, Samsung offers brand new content in which passengers can imagine themselves fighting off zombies amidst a thrilling mine train chase.

Devil Seeker's Tale
...is described as an interactive gaming attraction equipped with modern AR technology. TD;LR? Think Pokemon Go turned into you, hunting down Chinese devils, aand replace your mobile phone with VR glasses and a screen-equipped bow. I promise you: it's as awesome as it sounds, and even better, the attraction spins out new (less kid-friendly) content on the latter half of the day.

From 5:30 PM until the theme park closes, you can enjoy Infernal Spiral, a tale set in the "18 Levels of Hell" (i.e. Chamber of Tongue Ripping, Pool of Blood...you get the picture, right?).

Infernal Spiral

Circus of Wonder / Circus of the Damned
Just like the one above, this attraction offers two types of shows: the kid-friendly, daytime Circus of Wonder, in which scare actors play nice - and then come 5:30 PM, there's the Circus of the Damned, wherein everyone in this delightfully creepy circus will scare the wits out of you.

Sanrio Characters: Helloween Party
I know, I know. You're probably thinking only kids will have fun with this, but I'm excited to say you're 100% wrong. Just give this cute and super fun attraction a try, and you won't regret it, I promise.

In this interactive gaming attraction, Kuromi's trapped Hello Kitty and her friends in a magical forest, and it's up to the guests (grouped into threes) to rescue them. Each group will be provided with a magical map (a.k.a. tablet device) that they'll need to use in order to rescue each character.

Make sure your phone's fully charged as every inch of Sanrio Helloween is 100% Instagrammable! You'll be clicking on your phone nonstop the moment you step inside this zone.

VR Morgue
If you're familiar with the game or film adaptation of Silent Hill and loved the horrifyingly surreal quality of its scare scenes, then you MUST absolutely give this VR ride a try. Although this virtual experience only has you strapped in a seat for a few minutes, every second you spend in this imaginary morgue is frighteningly unforgettable (but again, in a good way of course).

A psychotic scissor-wielding nurse...and then there's you, strapped helplessly to a wheelchair.

P.S. Make things worse - I mean, fun - by fully immersing yourself in all its VR goodness. Turn your head and look at every direction (left, right, up, down), and who knows what you'll see?

Sanrio Characters: Trick or Treat Trail
Aside from all the super cute Sanrio x Halloween picture spots, there are also costumed actors and actresses waiting to challenge you with fun games (don't worry, you'll be able to play them even if you don't speak Cantonese) and reward you with Mentos, Chupa-Chups, and one amazingly cute accessory that you'll find handy later on for evening selfies. ;)

Honestly, every scare show and attraction offered during Ocean Park's Helloween fest is a must try, and it's only because of time constraints that we've had to narrow our list to a couple favorites. But hey, if you can spend more than a day exploring the park - go and never look back! :D
