#HHN6 RIP (VIP) Tour Recap and Review: Is It Worth Your Money?

USS #HHN6

ICYMI, we shared a post earlier about this year’s Halloween Horror Nights #HHN8 over at Universal Studios Singapore. It's that one time every year USS is transformed into an eerie, creepy paradise that's every horror afficionado's dream nightmare come true.

How about drinking your soda from blood bags?
And yes, in case you're wondering it's available for purchase!
Lastly, your usual parade ain't the ordinary kind for HHN > . <
Why spend extra for a RIP / VIP tour?
First, a look at this year's HHN8 ticket prices.
For our HHN6 RIP tour, we paid a slightly lower price - $148 SGD per person - by taking advantage of their early bird discount
Even so, there's still a huge price difference between the two, BUT...

General admission only serves as your entry ticket to the event.
Our HHN6 RIP / VIP tour pass, on the other hand, offered SO MUCH MORE beyond mere admission to the event. It was also inclusive of:
+ RIP tour credential, lanyard, glowstick
+ VIP access to ALL haunted houses, scare zones, and selected attractions for the duration of your three-hour tour
+ Complimentary welcome drink at the EXCLUSIVE VIP reception lounge
+ $20 SGD meal voucher OR join the buffet that's also EXCLUSIVE for VIP / RIP tour guests
+ Opportunity for a private meet & greet with the scare actors
+ 10% discount on select merchandise at USS outlets
+ 10% off your total bill at USS food & beverage outlets except for Starbucks
+ Digiphoto one-for-one promotion on photo prints
+ Unlimited Express Pass for participating attractions

And if that quick breakdown isn't enough to underscore how amazing the RIP tour is...
How about we walk you through our HHN6 RIP tour experience?
The VIP Reception Area
First of all, it's EXCLUSIVE to RIP tour guests (that's what the extra $$$ are for, after all), and secondly, it's AIR-CONDITIONED. The latter may not mean anything to you right now, but wait until you've attended HHN, and you'll almost immediately understand how important this place is.

For our #HHN6 RIP tour, we got to the VIP reception sometime past 5 in the afternoon since we opted for the buffet rather than the meal voucher. After verifying our details, the VIP staff started handing out admission bracelets...
And other (free) RIP / VIP tour merch, a.k.a. what I'd like to think as limited-edition souvenirs.
It's also where you receive your complimentary drink as seen above, and YES, it's meant to look like blood. > . <
The VIP reception area may be small, BUT every horrifying nook and cranny was worth exploring.

Corpse outside the VIP area. Initially, they had a blanket over the stretcher, and it was made to look like a surprise buffet table. > . <

These burnt pages tell a story, and while the third piece of paper (white-ish in color) was made to look like a list of victims, they were actually the names of HHN6's RIP / VIP tour guides. Incredible, right?

Oh, and beware the surprise in the VIP restroom...
Last but not the least, the VIP reception area was also where we were introduced to our tour guide.
P.S. All RIP tour guides were dressed as zombie surgeons.
The VIP Only Buffet
As mentioned earlier, we opted for the buffet rather than the meal voucher since it gives you the chance to enter the park early (the buffet starts at 6PM while HHN starts at 7:30 PM).
Secondly, the buffet is NOT for the faint of heart, but we like it that way. :D
For the duration of HHN6, the Hollywood China Bistro offered dinner buffet exclusively (yes, I totes love this word > . <) to RIP tour guests.

One of the few "normal" looking food at the buffet.
 Dessert, anyone?
 They taste good. Honest!
Meatballs...or meat eyes? You be the judge. ;)

Not to worry, but they also have sliders if the others simply weren't palatable for those with delicate stomachs. ;)

P.S. My sister says the finger had that extra crunch to make it "feel" more realistic. > . <

The SCAREMONY
RIP tour guests have the "best seats in the house" when it comes to the Scaremony, and by this I mean that your tour guide will be escorted to a cordoned area that's EXCLUSIVE for RIP tour guests

Moreover, since we also arrived earlier than most other RIP guests, we literally had the entire "front row" to ourselves. This means a lot, considering just how huge the HHN crowds can get.

All Scaremonies come with a story, and for HHN6, we had a dance party gone fatally wrong when Lady Death makes her appearance. The result: dance concert meets scare fest, which is yet another reason why having "front row seats" will make your Scaremony experience 1,000x better. Trust me on this.

VIP Lanes for Haunted Houses and Other Attractions
Ever wondered how it feels like to be VIP for an event? Well, for the price of less than P7K or P10K (depending on the date of your visit), you’ll know how it is to walk past dozens of queueing guests because you’re ENTERING AN ATTRACTION VIA THE EXIT GATES.
Seriously.
That’s exactly how it was to be an RIP tour guest, and if you consider the waiting time for the attractions…

It just makes things more surreal. I was reading up on other people’s HHN6 reviews, and one blogger even mentioned having to wait for THREE HOURS just to ride one of the coasters kept open for HHN. Moreover, there were also certain nights when even those with express passes had to queue to get in.
So really, if you want just one reason to pay for an RIP tour, then let this be it.
ABSOLUTELY ZERO LINES FOR THREE HOURS.
Also…

How about front row seats for Jack the Clown's Recurring Nightmare Circus Show?
I'm not sure if this is guaranteed for all RIP tours, but because I made sure to research about the service prior to our booking, I knew beforehand that the actual itinerary of your VIP tour could be tailor-made to the group's specification.
Luckily for us, all TWELVE members of our tour group consisted of my family and relatives so there was no need for reaching a majority for every decision. Hence, from the very start we let our tour guide know that we wanted the best seats possible for the show.
And YES, our tour guide absolutely delivered.

Also, those front-row seats were absolutely worth every SGD paid for our RIP tour passes.

The show was thrillingly entertaining and laugh-out-loud funny, and best of all, there were multiple times the actors would even interact with us in subtle but infinitely fun (and somewhat terrifying) ways.

Meet & Greet + Photo Op
Last but not the least, we had our private meet and greet with a scare actor, plus of course the chance to have photos with him. As always, this was also something that we DID NOT have to queue for (as compared to other regular HHN guests).

Even better, the scare actor didn't make us feel like he was pressed for time while interacting with us. He was totally in character, and we were given a chance to take a reasonable number of photos with him.

Verdict: RIP Tour is worth your money if you want a 100% unforgettable Halloween Horror Nights experience.
If you're having second thoughts about your budget, then maybe think of it this way - rather than having to fly annually to Singapore for HHN, why not go all out just once and splurge for an RIP tour?
Tickets for this year's RIP tour are available here, and they come with several NEW bonus perks like -

  • $25 meal voucher rather than $20
  • FOUR HOURS of VIP experience rather than THREE
  • If you pay for the tickets with your Mastercard, this automatically entitles you to a FREE Behind the Screams (BTS) tour!
  • Discounted rate on the RIP tour if you were a VIP guest for #HHN7 / 2017 Halloween Horror Nights
  • Discounted rate for the Zombie Tag add-on experience ($30 instead of the regular rate of $38)

The memories you'll gain from the RIP tour are priceless, BUT...be warned. It's also a highly addictive experience, so it's more than possible you'll want to keep coming back every year. :D
